Dani Haviland:  tractors, tools and roses

Obsession to Profession
I remember smelling my first roses at four years old. I lived in
apartments most of my youth so we didn't have a garden. I
started selling tractor parts at 19. I started my own heavy
equipment parts and environmental company at 41 (I hated
alarm clocks) and
finally got room to plant roses 9 years ago.
Being the Christian capitalist that I am,  I figured I had better pay
for my passion by reselling the plants.  I am also doing my part
for the planet and growing organic.
Organic gardening and the food web
My father-in-law used organic gardening all of his life. His
homestead plants never had chemicals poured on them. His
father had showed him about manure and compost teas and
mulching. He grew world class trees, fruits and vegetables this
way. He fed the dirt and it fed the plants. These same methods
work here and everywhere.  Learn more at

General Store-Alaska style

We have lots to keep contractors going in the ToolsAndStuff store
And yes, we like pretties here too. We have old and unusual books,
Alaska Native crafts for sale at the store. Look for these on the
Alaskana link

I still sell tractors, parts, books,
tools,safety and environmental
goods. Here I am by my Muskeg
Water Roses
This Queen Elizabeth bloom got
huge (almost 7")!   And I had it
planted in water. I am
experimenting with my own
version of hydroponics. I just use
water in a spill pallet with a bit of
Alaska Humus for food,
Messenger for plant support and
goldfish to move (aerate) the
water and eat the mosquito
larvae. The fish by-product (poop)
is one reason these guys thrive.
Science never stopped at school
for me.
